In addition to its practical function, our School Council supports learning in the area of personal and social education and citizenship. Through this area, which includes assemblies, ‘circle times’ and class debates, children develop an understanding of democratic processes, the right of each person to hold individual opinions and beliefs, and the need for co-operation and compromise to achieve positive developments.
School Council members are elected by their classmates in Key Stage 2 and meet regularly with a link teacher and the Principal to put forward ideas and plan projects. Council members are linked with classes in Key Stage 1 and the Foundation Stage to ensure that all children, whatever their age, have a voice in the development of their school.
