Music at BIPSS

All classes in Key Stages 1 and 2 have music lessons twice a week with a specialist music teacher.

Lessons are held in the music room, which is very well-equipped with a wide variety of percussion instruments, digital piano and internet-linked interactive whiteboard, as well as a full set of child-sized banjos, used in teaching musical notation and accompaniment.

Children have opportunities to apply their musical skills, knowledge and understanding linked to a variety of IPC topics.

Music is highly valued at our school and the opportunity to perform to a variety of audiences is a key element of the children’s musical learning. During the year all children perform regularly in class and parent assemblies, as well as seasonal concerts within school and at a local chapel.

For children with particular interest and/or ability in music an after-school choir and lunchtime instrumental ensemble are organised. The school also acts as a venue for private instrumental tuition after school hours. Tuition is currently arranged in piano, violin, guitar and recorder.
