Learning in Mathematics continued
Mathematics at Key Stage 2
Children move from counting reliably to calculating fluently with all four number operations, using mental methods before other approaches. Children explore features of shape and space and mathematical patterns and develop their measuring skills in a range of contexts. They discuss and present their methods and reasoning using a wide range of mathematical language, diagrams and charts.
Mathematics at the British International Primary School
Our school follows the English National Curriculum programme of study. This includes the outcomes for learning of the English Numeracy Strategy.
Mathematics is taught every day in Key Stages 1 and 2, following a balanced programme of learning in number, shape, space and measures and handling data.
Where possible, children’s learning in mathematics is based on practical experience and investigations, and linked with learning in other areas of the curriculum, through IPC work, for instance data handling in ICT and measuring in science. Our aim is to ensure that children develop fully their understanding of mathematical properties and ideas, their knowledge of mathematical facts and relationships and their skills in applying mathematical learning to problem solving.
