Individual Needs Support continued
Learning Support
The Individual Needs Department is able to support children with moderate learning difficulties. The department works closely with class teachers to identify those children who would benefit from more intensive support. Individual Education Plans are devised, setting clear and achievable targets that are worked towards in class and, where appropriate, during individual or small group lessons outside the main classroom. The staff communicate closely with parents in working towards targets and reviewing progress in learning.
In addition, the Department screens pupils at key developmental stages and provides, for those children who would benefit, specific programmes to boost attainment in literacy and numeracy.
Able Children
The British International Primary School has a number of children of exceptionally high ability and potential. The needs and entitlement of able children are outlined in our school’s ‘Policy for Meeting Individual Needs’. The Individual Needs Department works closely with class and specialist teachers to identify children of high ability and to provide learning challenges to promote and further develop their strengths and talents.
