Learning in English continued
English at the British International Primary School
We follow the English National Curriculum programme of study. This includes the outcomes for learning of the National Literacy Strategy.
English is taught every day in Key Stages 1 and 2, following a balanced programme of reading, writing, speaking and listening. The programme identifies key areas of learning in the following areas:
Children learn best when their reading and writing have a clear purpose and audience; so much of children’s work in literacy is linked to learning in other areas of the curriculum e.g. via IPC topics. Children may, for instance, develop their reading skills by researching facts for a science topic, or develop narrative skills by writing from the perspective of a historical character. Regular assemblies, as well as class circle times and debates, provide children with opportunities to write for, and speak to, an audience.
